Lava stone is a natural product. It is formed when lava from a volcano solidifies and turns into stone. This process occurs naturally during volcanic eruptions. Lava rock has the property that, as the lava flows out of the volcano, it drags along everything it encounters in its path - paper, iron and any other material it finds is absorbed by the lava. When the lava rock is then extracted, it's impossible to see what's inside. Green spots' are pieces of iron inside the stone that turn green when fired in a 950°C kiln. Green stains are not a defect and do not cause any problems over time. Nor can the stain propagate or do anything similar.

Glazed lava stone trays are only compatible with the Glaze base. They are made up of several plates (4) forming the 144cm diameter tray.
