History
Founded in 1981, Gloster started relatively small producing teak benches and chairs in Bristol. In April 1992 the firm was purchased by new owners and manufacturing was moved to our own factory in Indonesia. At the same time the assortment began to multiply in order to contain a more varied selection of outdoor furniture, such as folding chairs, tables and deck chairs. Today, Gloster is one of the best known brands of quality outdoor furniture, with over 300 products and a global distribution network.
For more than twenty years, Gloster has had its own factory in Surabaya, on the island of Java in Indonesia. The furniture is made with respect for tradition while adopting new, more modern techniques to continue to offer the best quality. The Gloster factory is located near the teak plantations; it is managed by a European team and employs more than 1,000 people.
The mastery of Teak
Gloster's attention to the production of its teak furniture is exemplary. For example joints and fittings have been chosen specifically to offer the strongest and most durable solutions. Thanks to the steaming of the wood and modern machinery, the furniture is manufactured with the smallest tolerances, the fittings therefore fit together perfectly without visible gaps. In addition, Gloster uses different types of very powerful expanding glues which guarantee very long-term stability.
The diversity
The Gloster brand is renowned for its teak furniture, but recent collections have seen the arrival of a mixture of new materials such as caning, stainless steel, aluminum or even hand-woven fibre.
